How thick should my hdpe be? i don't want it to crack?

okay im making a snowboard rail. and i am using hdpe on top of it. for those of you that dont know what hdpe is, it is a hard plastic that you put on rails. but for those of you tht used it on your rail how thick did you get? because i dont want mine to crack. please help
